Recent engagements for Ignacio Prego included a tour with tenor Israel Lozano, sponsored by the Cervantes Institute, which took them to Chicago, USA, as well as piano and cello recitals in Miami, Washington, Madrid or Zamora, in Spain. In September 2009, Mr. Prego made his solo symphonic debut at the National Auditorium in Madrid, playing Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with great acclaim.

Mr. Prego was recently awarded the Caja Madrid Foundation Scholarship, presented by HRH the Crown Prince Felipe, at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. This prestigious award enables him to pursue advanced studies at the Jacobs School of Music in the University of Indiana (USA).

Born in Madrid, he holds the title of Superior Professor of Piano (2004) from the P. Antonio Soler Conservatory. There, he studied under Russian Professor Anatoli Povzoun. During his time at the Conservatory, he received the Premio de Honor Fin de Grado in piano (2000) and the Mención de Honor Fin de Carrera (2005.) He was selected to appear in the Ciclos Injuve 2005, and was a prize winner in competitions such as the Concurso de Música de Cámara de Yanguas (2005), Juventudes Musicales (Vinaroz, 2005) and the International Piano Forum (Barcelona, 2007). Since, he has furthered his studies in musical analysis and composition with Sebastián Mariné, Joel Lester and Patrick McCreless, and in piano-jazz, with Mariano Díaz. He has collaborated in piano masterclasses with such distinguished professors as Boris Berman, Diane Andersen, Rita Nuller, Oxana Yablonskaya, Paul Badura-Skoda, Michele Campanella and recently with Frederic Chiu and his "Deeper Piano Studies".

Mr. Prego has performed in solo recitals and as an orchestral soloist with such organizations as the Amalfi Coast Festival Young Artist Series (Italy), the Jóvenes Intérpretes de Conde Duque (Madrid), the Festival Internacional de Segovia Fundación Juan de Borbón, the Ciclo de Cámara de la Universidad Autónoma (Madrid), Baiona International Piano Festival (Galicia), appearing as well in prestigious halls such as the Arnold Schonbergzaal and Stadhuis Den Haag (Holland), Eno Hall (Simsbury, USA), Teatro Principal (Zamora) and the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Palma de Mallorca, Baleares). He has shared stage with leading artists of today’s musical world, such as the cellist Asier Polo, the tenor Israel Lozano and RTVE Orchestra's concertmaster Mariana Todorova. In December 2006, he performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto under Maestro Rainer Steubing-Negenborn in Madrid with Ms. Todorova and cellist Josetxu Obregón. This concert was recorded live for the Piccolo record label. That same month, he recorded an album featuring works by Brahms and Shostakovich in Holland with the Esterhazy Trio (of which Mr. Prego is a founding member.) He just finished a new recording for the music label "VERSO".

As a composer, Mr. Prego’s original music has been featured in the Málaga, Alcalá de Henares and San Sebastián Film Festivals, and well as in documentaries broadcasted on TVE (Spanish national television.) After completing his studies in Madrid’s prestigious ECAM, he has been in great demand as a film composer. He was awarded the Premio Radioactividad in the Alcalá Festival of 2002 for the soundtrack to the short film “Trainman Blues,” as well as an award at “Jazzcorto” of the Galapajazz Music Festival in 2005.

Mr. Prego has been awarded scholarships from the Spanish Government (AECI), the City of Madrid, and E. B. Storrs Scholarship Fund to further his studies with Brazilian Professor Luiz de Moura Castro at the Hartt School, University of Hartford (Connecticut, USA.)

In the US, he has performed in Connecticut,Washington, Miami,Chicago, Massachusetts and New York. In May 2007 he appeared with Esterhazy Trio in their US debut at the Simsbury Chamber Music Festival, where he also performed the world premiere of Variations for Piano, by composer-in-residence Eric Dudley (Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra). In June 2007 he presented a recital at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C., organized by the prestigious Washington Performing Arts Society. This 2008 he debuted to great acclaim in New York City at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, together with Josetxu Obregón (www.obregonprego.com.)

In October of 2008, he plays at the George Washington University with “SUITE HISPANIA”, a project which fusions classical music, flamenco and jazz.
